It's a very windy day in Airdrie and it's left me realizing that I haven't blogged in awhile. Please excuse the overuse of the word "crap" in the following...thanks ;)
We've been busy adjusting to the new plan and it's going very well. After a few weeks of keeping a food journal for Morgan I've been faced with the realization that we've been feeding him a load of crap on a regular basis. As a result of this horrifying revelation, today I emptied the fridge from all the crap that was in it, anything chocolate and every condiment that was expired. I left the table syrup, but that's only until we get to the store to buy real maple syrup to replace it. Adam has been doing an awesome job with the grocery shopping too. He picked up lots of things that are "normal" kid food, but it's all preservative free, dye free, and all the other nasty stuff free. I'm so very excited and Morgan's been doing very well adjusting back to the way he used to eat. He can have as much fruit as he wants. There are zero limits on fruit. He's loving his all natural fruit bottom yogurt, no sugar added I might add. We've got natural hotdogs, dye/preservative/sugar free mac 'n' cheese, unprocessed meats. I'm lucky that Canadian milk and cheese is already hormone free, but I do plan on looking into dye free cheese or maybe going organic for him. The steps we've taken so far are great and I'm so glad that everyone is on board with helping our wee lad.
Tomorrow I'm emptying everything out of the pantry. Anything that is crap is garbage, unless it can be used by another family or something. I wonder though, why is it acceptable to donate our crappy food to people? If it's not healthy enough for us then why is it healthy enough for a family that has less? It seems strange to me, but I also can't throw out perfectly good food if someone else is willing to eat it. I think I'll stream line the candy that I come across, because I know there's A LOT of it. Instead of throwing it all out maybe I can freeze some of it for next Halloween or something. I don't know, but it seems a waste to chuck it all; however, if it's the difference between throwing it all out or having my son still eat it and then get sick later from it, well then Hello Garbage!
The Metcalf motto for this month is....If it's crap don't eat it!

Good luck with your mission. I think a lot of stuff most of us eat is crap.
You can never go wrong eating healthy!
