I am Free, because...

Tomorrow is Remembrance Day and I thought it would be fitting to share a video or two which encompass the respect and emotion I have for our military personel, past and present.  I have friends in the Royal Canadian Air Force, the Canadian Army, and the Royal Canadian Navy.  I know friends and family who have served with grace, courage, and dignity in our military and the military of our allies.  I consider myself extremely lucky and extremely blessed to have them in my life and to know that they are responsible for my freedom.  Those friends and family know who they are and I have no doubt they are aware of how much I love them and thank them for protecting me!

I can attend the church of my choosing, because I am free.  I attended school, because I am free.  I can drive a car, because I'm free.  I can choose to have more than one child, because I am free.  I fly my flag and vote, because I'm free.

My freedom did not come free of charge.  My freedom came from people who were willing to go out and fight for it.  My freedom came, because a very brave and honourable man or woman went out and brought it home for me.  I am so very grateful to those who have served and those who are serving.

I always shed a tear when pausing on Remembrance Day, because I know that freedom comes at a price.  I know that every service member has a person who loves them dearly and can't wait for them to return home safely.  I know that some don't make it back at all.  I shed a few tears, because I am someone's mother.  My son can ride his bike safely down our street, because someone elses child is put him/herself in harms way.  I am so thankful to that soldier's mother, because without her my child would be living a very different life.

I am free and I am thankful for my freedom.  I hope that I do my very best to not squander it.
